Reading
We work in partnership with parents through
our Home Reading Programme to ensure that all
children learn to read confidently and fluently.
In addition, every day children have Guided
Reading sessions taught by the teacher. Our
Phonics Programme begins in the Nursery, and
we hold parent workshops to teach you how to
support your child with Phonics at home.
Performing Arts
Music is a big part of life at Star. Our specialist
music teacher teaches throughout the school and
children have the opportunity to join a choir, learn
a musical instrument or join a band. Year 5
children participate in The Festival of Voices along
with four other Newham schools, a spectacular
annual event to which parents are invited.
ICT
We are extremely committed to the development
of ICT. Children use laptop and tablet technology
to support their learning. We aim
to equip our children for the
technological challenges
of the 21st century.
Memorable
Experiences
Children can help to look after the chickens on
Star's Organic Farm, and take care of new chicks
after watching them hatch in the incubator.
In year 4, children have the opportunity to visit
France, climb La Tour Eiffel and experience life
on a French farm.
Year 6 children visit The Lake District for a week,
staying at an Outward Bound Centre and
experiencing a variety of exciting outdoor
pursuits in the wonderful Cumbrian countryside.
Parents
At Star, we work in partnership with you to
develop your children as happy, confident
learners, holding regular meetings and
workshops in our `Parents and Community
Classroom'. In that way, you will feel informed
and supported in helping your children with
learning at home.
Learning outside
the classroom
A wide range of over 35 extra-curricular clubs
provide excitement and interest for children.
Recent clubs include ballet, boxing, football,
cooking, Spanish and Tai Chi. In addition, Star
offers a Breakfast Club (before school care) and
Six O'clock Club (after school care).
